Q. What makes u different from all the other rappers out now?
Balboa: I’m me and they’re whoever they are. That’s the difference.
Q. What message, if any, are u looking to convey through your music?
Balboa: It’s cool to be regular. Be yourself and make the best out of your life. A lot of people are trying to live their life up to another person’s standards. My message is to do what you want, what you think is cool not what people, media, rappers, etc tell you is cool.
Q. What do you want people to know about you that your music may not cover?
Balboa: I think my music covers pretty much everything. Between my old shit and new material I think I’ve covered all the bases.
Q. Do you think rappers have a moral obligation to be role models to today’s’ youth?
Balboa: Not at all. I feel like it’s my life and I’m going to live it the way I want to and you should do the same. My music is my life and ideas, if you can relate to it, agree with it, disagree with it, learn from it, my job is done.
If given the opportunity to say something to millions of people I’m gone make sure it’s something I feel like needs to be said and heard. Not everyone feels that way.
Q. What is your songwriting method if any?
Balboa: I hear a beat and an idea or concept will come to me. I come up with the hook and then write the verses and 20mins later I have a song.
Q. If you could collaborate with anyone right now who would it be?
Balboa: Are you asking me as an artist or as a business man? As an artist I would probably say Redman because I grew up listening to his music, he’s from Jersey and one of the few that put Jersey on the map. As a business man I’m collaborating with whoever has the number one song out right now.
Q. What other rappers (famous or not) are you currently listening to?
Balboa – Currently I’m not listening to any rappers because I’m working on my album. When I’m creating, I don’t listen to other rappers because I don’t want to feel like I may have got an idea from someone else that my music would be competing against. I don’t want my music to sound like any other artist that’s out now.
Q – If you had to describe your music in one word what would it be?
Balboa: Realistic.
Q. What would you be doing if music wasn’t an option for you?
Balboa: That’s a hard question to answer. If music was never an option there’s no telling what I would be doing. If music stopped being an option, I guess I would get money however I had to. Everything would be an option at that point.
Q. How often do you write?
Balboa: I try to write everyday. Whether its going to be recorded for a project or not. I just like to exercise my brain. Its good to think.
Q. How long have you been rapping?
Balboa: Pretty much my whole life. Taking it seriously for about 8 years.
Q. Is your music for a certain demographic?
Balboa: It’s for anybody who can relate to it.
